Bunes affairs took part in the proceedings. Mr. Bune was of course

consulted from time to time by the liquidator, but so far as I

know, the initiative came from the other directors and shareholders

the majority of whom were Chinese. Mr. Bune's share of the purchase

price has been paid to his liquidator.

The circumstances under which Mr. Gutschke, the

local Manager of the Deutsche Asiatische Bank, was not intered but

deported were reported in my Confidential Despatch of the 4th. of November, 1914. Gonz

I believe that Mr. Gutschke did go to America

and that subsequently he went to Shanghai. At both places the Bank

he is employed in have branches. I have no reason to believe that

Mr. Gutschke has broken the parole he gave to this Government.

It is to be noted that the internment and deport

-ation of Germans resident in Hongkong were undertaken for Military

and not for Commercial reasons. This fact has long been known in

Hongkong it was published in the Blue Book Report of June 1915 but certain members of the Chamber of Commerce in the pursuit of a cheap

notoriety have consistently ignored it.

Company was carefully considered but it was found to be hopeless

to attempt to do so. There was undoubtedly a dose connection

between the two firms but the matter could be carried no further.

The assets are small ed would probably have been eaten up in costa.

There was, however no chance of success.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient,

bumble servant,

вахад

Governor,*c..
